Though Anirudh Thapa pulled one back for Chennaiyin, it was hardly enough to stop the rout.
Before this assault, Chennaiyin boasted of being one of the best defending sides of the league after Mohun Bagan. But after being taken apart by Hyderabad the team will have to go back to the drawing board again.
Chennaiyin were without their injured captain Rapahel Crivellaro and the team was in a disarray. With the Brazilian likely to miss a couple of more weeks' action, things may get uphill for Chennaiyin.
Hyderabad began the match confidently and rattled Chennaiyin with their pace from the onset. But in the first half Hyderabad missed too many chances and it looked that Chennaiyin might be able to hold on for a draw.
But the second half proved to be an entirely different story and Hyderabad dented Chennaiyin’s hopes of edging closer to the top four.
Chianese, who missed three clear chances in the first half redeemed himself in the 50th minute when he gave Hyderabad the lead after a horrible piece of defending from Eli Sabia. Aridane Santana lobbed the ball towards Chianese and Sabia intercepted and tried to kick the ball out. Instead it hit Chianese and went into the net. Goalkeeper Vishal Kaith, who had come out of his line, stood and watched.

Chennaiyin did not even have a chance to regroup before Narzary curled in a gem of a goal to extend Hyderabad’s lead within 3 minutes. After committing a howler during the first goal, Kaith did well to keep Santana’s shot out but Nazary slammed the rebound into the net with a belter of a left-footer.
Just when things looked all over for Chennaiyin, Anirudh Thapa instilled some hope of a comeback after another howler by the Hyderabad goalkeeper. Kattimani spilled what should have been a routine collection and gifted Chennaiyin a goal in the 67th minute of the game.
Though Chennaiyin showed some spark after this goal, Victor widened the gap with a stunning shot before Narzary scored his second goal of the evening to put the final nail in Chennaiyin's coffin.
